Gli aggettivi qualificativi

Quasi tutti gli aggettivi qualificativi seguono gli stessi schemi fondamentali dei nomi con le loro desinenze che dipendono  dal genere e dal numero. Ci sono due "classi" o gruppi di aggettivi:

Descriptive adjectives

 Almost all descriptive adjectives follow the same basic patterns as the nouns  with their endings depending on gender and number. There are two classes’ or groups of adjectives:

Nel primo gruppo esistono quattro diverse desinenze per il femminile/maschile, il singolare/plurale. Nel secondo gruppo, la desinenza è la stessa sia per maschile che per il femminile.

Il genere e il numero dell'aggettivo devono conformarsi al sostantivo a cui si riferisce.

In the first group, there are four different endings for feminine/masculine/singular/ plural. In the second group, the ending is the same for both masculine and feminine.

The gender and number of the adjective must agree with the noun to which it refers.

Eccezioni a questo modello

Solo alcuni aggettivi descrittivi hanno un modello diverso da quelli mostrati in precedenza. Gli aggettivi con singolare -a (sia per il maschile che per il femminile) hanno un plurale maschile in -i e un plurale femminile in -e. Molti di questi hanno desinenze come -ista, -asta, -ita, -ida, -ota

Exceptions to this pattern

Only a few descriptive adjectives have a different pattern from those shown above. Adjectives with singular -a (for both masculine and feminine) have masculine plural in -i and feminine plural in -e. Many of these have endings such as -ista, -asta, -ita, -ida, -ota

Gli aggettivi invariabili

Gli aggettivi invariabili hanno la stessa desinenza, qualunque sia il loro genere e numero, e mantengano la stessa forma del sostantivo a cui si riferiscono. Gli aggettivi invariabili più comuni sono:

• Alcuni colori: blu, rosa, viola, lilla, beige.
• I colori indicati da due parole: verde bottiglia, giallo canarino, bianco latte.
• Pari ‘even, equal’, dispari ‘odd’ and impari ‘uneven, unequal’:
• Arrosto (roast):

Invariable adjectives

Invariable adjectives have the same ending, whatever their gender and number, and retain the same form whatever noun they are referring to. The most common invariable adjectives are:

• Some colours: blu, rosa, viola, lilla, beige.
• Colours indicated by two words: verde bottiglia, giallo canarino, bianco latte.
• Pari ‘even, equal’, dispari ‘odd’ and impari ‘uneven, unequal’:
• Arrosto (roast):
